Focus on Fibre Arts Association Climate Change Exhibition Edmonton AB

I received wonderful news last week from the FFAA Competition for 2018 - Climate Change.
My piece "Where There's Smoke, There's Fire"  won 3 awards - first place in its section, Best of Category for overall Quilt category, and Best of Show!!   This piece was a commentary on the political climate change that is happening in the USA.  A snow dyed piece of fabric by Pat Hardie was hand stitched into flames.  Hand stitched text swirls around the piece - all the inflamed rhetoric, alternative facts, lies, racist, sexist, homophobic comments.......

Here I am with a collaged photo of the piece

CQA needed a photo of myself with the piece.  Since I didn't attend the exhibition because of time and distance I had to collage it.    So here is a rare photo of me with the prize winning piece.

Wildfires; a Terrible Beauty

My second piece Wildfires:a Terrible Beauty won second place in its specific Felting category and Best of Category for the overall Felting Category.  It is felted with roving and sari silk and hand stitched.

These awards come with ribbons including a rosette from CQA, a place in next year's CQA,  and significant cash awards!    I was so honoured to be chosen from amongst some wonderful fibre artists!  I can't wait to see the catalogue!

The exhibition continues in Edmonton until July 3. Details on the  Focus on Fibre Arts website.
