 Juanita Sauve Fibre Artist
Artist Statement
“For me, the joy of creating original art is in telling a story with fabric, thread and paint”
Since a friend asked Juanita to stitch a square for a woman’s strength quilt in 1996, she has been telling stories in stitch.  Her art quilts are primarily hand stitched reflecting her joy in exploring Canadian landscapes and in personal and political themes.  Her mounted and/or framed work often includes hand and machine stitching, paint, needle felting and hand embroidery.   Juanita also creates tiny one of a kind landscape pendants and embroidered necklaces.
Primarily self taught, Juanita has attended many fibre art workshops with teachers such as Val Hearder, Susan Strachan, Elaine Quehl,  Mary Pal, as well as fellow members of Out of the Box Fibre Artists.  She has also taken classes in acrylics, watercolour and ink and learns from  books, CDs and fellow art bloggers. “I will learn anything I need to create the effect I want in a piece – painting techniques, embroidery stitches, mono printing, rug hooking, stamping, sun printing, photo transfer, beading, tissue paper manipulation, or felting”
